COURSE DESCRIPTION

Scientific Communication Advances Research Excellence (SCOARE) is a self-paced online course that prepares research mentors to support mentees’ writing, speaking, and presenting. The course draws on over a decade of empirical research on scientific communication, mentoring, language use, science identity, and career intention.

Across six short modules, mentors learn to:

  • Recognize how language shapes identity and belonging

  • Set clear expectations for communication

  • Scaffold writing, speaking, and presenting tasks

  • Provide effective, targeted feedback

  • Create opportunities that build engagement and productivity

By the end of the course, mentors will be prepared to apply an engaged mentoring approach that strengthens mentee self-efficacy, science identity, and communication skills.
